Dear Google...

I would like to be able to turn off the so-called instant search feature.

Please, I don't want your search engine telling me what it thinks I want and taking me where I don't want to be.

Sometimes, I AM looking for variant spellings and even misspellings and uncommon terms, but this new feature (which I despise) is always messing me up and actually slowing down my searches.

Also, it does NOT work smoothly, so...

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, turn off the damn thing and allow me to do MY searches MY way.
The above was sent off to Google via its "How can we improve Google?"

Actually the category was "I have a suggestion or want to share positive feedback."

Well, my suggestion does not offer positive feedback--I find the so-called instant search feature insulting and annoying. It's herky jerky and often freezes up, sometimes crashing my computer. Search pages often stop working, and I have to reload, so how is that an improvement?

But most importantly,
I WANT GOOGLE TO STOP TRYING TO THINK FOR ME!!!
I know what I want, and I can easily tell when I have made an error.

Computers and dazzling features are great, but, in the end, the human brain is far more sophisticated than Google seems to think.

How about it, Google???

  3. Yeah it's a pain in the butt, AKA Google putting square pegs in to round holes (Same with Youtube too).

    To Fix:

If you've cleared your browser in FireFix whoops meant FireFox :)~ in tools>recent history you need to go to Google's homepage and do a search with instant on (it's set to on in default anyway).

When the SERP's show to the right of page mouse over and click on the gear icon. A menu box will reveal itself and first on the list is Search settings click on this in the menu (URL below).

    http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en

In it under Google Instant predictions toggle the 'Never show Instant results' radio button. When done click on save at the bottom of screen, Google then submits the preference cookie to your browser which prevents instant results functioning when searching.

You'll need to do this repetitively every time you clear your browser's web history as I do. It's a pain in the butt and a hassle to navigate just to do this (guessing Google doesn't want you to block it) but hey at least Google is showing stable consistency here!

That is to say it's as much a hassle to use Google instant and it's just as much a hassle to prevent it working— nice to know that Google's thinking evenly on all front's, a real champaign in usage efficiency! ;)~
